Platforms—or instruments—are the systems that clinicians will use to carry out and interpret multiplexed protein measurements.

SomaLogic's proprietary aptamer arrays and associated instrumentation are being developed for both clinical proteomics research (protein signature discovery) and clinical diagnostics (protein signature-based analyses of actual patient samples).

An aptamer array presents a large number of different aptamers in a multiplexed format to enable the simultaneous measurement of the corresponding protein targets. SomaLogic's instrument platforms will integrate this core technology with a number of other components to deliver reliable, easy-to-use performance that sets the standard for clinical proteomics and diagnostics.

  • Fluidics systems are used to load samples onto the array, ensure thorough mixing, and remove waste at the end of the assay.
  • An appropriate reader (e.g., for detection of fluorescent signal) allows protein binding to aptamers to be turned into useful data.
  • Information systems assess patient protein profiles against the appropriate protein signature application(s) and report the results through a laboratory information management system (LIMS), ultimately providing physicians and their patients with the information that they need.

SomaLogic is working with strategic partners to develop and manufacture these platform systems. First-generation instruments will be designed for use in SomaLogic's own research programs and in CLIA "high-complexity" clinical laboratories. Subsequent generations will be deployed in general laboratories (including hospital labs) and will eventually provide array-based diagnostics in the physician's office and at the patient's bedside.
