Making Colorado Healthcare Better, Affordable and Accessible

SOMALOGIC
April 6, 2005

WHAT: SomaLogic’s Healthcare Forum brings together local and national subject experts who are at the forefront of solutions that can deliver healthcare in a better, more fair and economical way. Speakers and panelists will discuss current healthcare delivery problems and potential solutions with an audience of 250 Coloradans.

WHY: In Colorado today, we face a healthcare crisis shared across the nation. While the United States spends more money on healthcare than any other country, the quality of our system is inferior. Patients and providers can benefit from new ideas, reform and emerging technologies that can change the status quo.

WHEN: Wednesday, April 13, 6-7:30 p.m.; reception from 5:30-6 p.m.

WHERE: University of Colorado, Boulder; Room A2B70 at the Department of Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology (MCDB) Building; Colorado Ave. on the CU campus (across from Folsom Stadium west entrance and adjacent to Balch Fieldhouse); paid parking in lot or meters on Colorado Ave.

WHO: Governor Richard Lamm, former governor of Colorado, director of the University of Denver’s Center for Public Policy and Contemporary Issues and author of The Brave New World of Health Care, will discuss “Infinite Needs vs. Finite Resources” to spark discussion regarding healthcare access and affordability.

Dr. David Lawrence, former CEO and Chariman of Kaiser Permanente and author of From Chaos to Care: The Promise of Team Based Medicine, will propose solutions including applying manufacturing models to healthcare management and other ideas gained from his extensive experience.

Dr. Grant Bagley, a partner in Arnold and Porter LLP’s life sciences practice out of Washington, D.C., Dr. Richard Byyny, executive director, Center for Health Policy, University of Colorado Hospital and Dr. Marilyn Coors, assistant professor at the Center for Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Colorado Health Science Center, will offer perspectives on health policy, legislation and ethics. Dr. Larry Gold, CEO and chairman of the board of SomaLogic, will provide introductions, and Dr. Elizabeth “Betsy” Hoffman, president of the University of Colorado System, will moderate the panel and audience discussion.

HOW: Admission is free, however, seating is limited and reservations are required by calling 303-625-9003 or sending an email to HealthcareForum@somalogic.com.

Additional sponsorship provided by Arnold and Porter LLP and the University of Colorado.
